Migratory birds find human friends in Wuhan
Under the guidance of government departments and the society, more than 20 social organizations have participated in cleaning the beaches, Yan said.
In 2007, when the bird-watching branch of Wuhan's wildlife conservation society was established, Yan was one of the first nine members.
In 2017, the Wuhan Bird Watching Society was registered as an independent society. Despite the time and study requirements, membership has grown to nearly 300. Yan said the members have visited virtually every corner of Wuhan that is suitable for watching birds and recorded their movements. In 2016, the observations were first compiled into an annual report for bird monitoring in the city. The report has been updated every year since.
Last year, the number of bird monitoring places in Wuhan reached 70. Nearly 2,500 observation records have been submitted by members of the society and other bird-watching enthusiasts.
The detailed and reliable reports showed the residents' enhanced awareness of ecological protection, Yan said.
At the suggestion of the bird-watching society, the local government moved to protect three wild bird habitats, including Tianxingzhou.
