Terns take their turn in Hainan

Every winter, flocks of birds soaring above and dancing on waters in the Dongzhaigang National Nature Reserve — home to an impressive mangrove forest — create a unique natural scene in Haikou, Hainan province.

A few days ago, a bevy of gray-winged terns arrived at the reserve. Some flew and some were observed standing on power lines, like snowflakes or upside-down icicles.
