On mountain in Jilin, magical frost appears

In recent days, cold air turned Sifang Mountain in Tonghua, Jilin province, into a white crystalline world with sparkling rime appearing on trees across the mountain.

The nearby alpine grasslands and wetlands help form a snowy and foggy microclimate environment in mountain areas during the winter, which can greatly increase the probability of rime.

Rime is a special type of frost — granular tufts of ice that appear only when atmospheric conditions are right and warm water vapor meets colder air.

From October to April every year, the unique ice that appears on the snow-covered mountain attracts lots of visitors.
