Where warm meets cold, beauty appears

As temperatures dropped recently in Xunke county, Heilongjiang province, rime ice appeared along the Kurbin River.

Rime on trees is a crystalline spectacle, turning the area into a dreamy world and attracting photographers to record a sight rarely seen.

The heat that comes from the process of generating power at a hydropower station on the river prevents the river from freezing, even on cold winter days. The rime ice is formed when warm water vapor from the river meets the cold air.
