Farmers in Guangping county of Handan, Hebei province, have been harvesting lotus roots recently on more than 200 hectares.
Because of the large proportion of silt in the county's soil, the lotus roots grown in Guangping have a high starch content and a fine taste, which is popular with people in neighboring areas.
