Nine people suspected of organizing telecom and online fraud operations were recently captured by Cambodian police and handed over to Chinese authorities, the Ministry of Public Security said on Wednesday.
The nine are suspected in cases involving a total of more than 100 million yuan ($14.7 million), it said.
While investigating telecom fraud cases, public security organs found that a number of fraud operation dens were located in Cambodia. The ministry put the alleged organizers on the wanted list of a special campaign, which was launched in June and aims to bust telecom fraud groups.
Cooperating via Interpol, Chinese and Cambodian police acquired a large amount of evidence against the fraud gang.
Besides the nine suspects, more than 10 others have voluntarily returned to China and surrendered. So far, a total of 24 suspects have been arrested for their involvement in the group.
Since the campaign's launch, the ministry has placed about 490 people on the wanted list, and about 240 have been captured.
