Wheat with lush growth is more sensitive to freezing, as wheat has little resistance to low temperatures after it begins growing in the spring. To reduce injuries of lush growth wheat, farmers in Juye county, Shandong, are using machines to press the field in recent days and keep proper humidity to help the wheat seedlings grow steadily to survive the spring freeze.

"About 90 percent of wheat grows well. We need to take some measures to prevent spring drought and freeze," said Jiao Dechang, an agricultural technician in Juye.
