Why is the US paranoid over a balloon?

I am embarrassed to see the US crying about it [the balloon] like that while sending billions of dollars over here to spy on China every second of every day and then, canceling an important meeting by heads of state whose sole purpose should be to discuss things like this in a way that has the most benefit to each country. Childish. Little kids know how to resolve conflict better than that.
