Fuzhou strikes gold — fish, that is
Fuzhou, Fujian province, released its new city brand recently. Appropriately, it's a goldfish.
The city, with more than 80 goldfish breeding farms, produces about 15 million fish annually, contributing 80 percent of the high-end goldfish in China. The output value of the goldfish industry reached 1 billion yuan ($144 million) last year. The city's goldfish are exported to more than 10 countries and regions.
Fuzhou released its own brand image for goldfish recently at the 2023 Fuzhou Goldfish Cultural Festival. The cartoon-like graphic image combines a cute goldfish with the window of a traditional Chinese dwelling.
Fuzhou has initiated policies to promote the development of the goldfish industry, encouraging breeding, cultivation of good species and building uniqueness. It also hosts cultural festivals, competitions and business matching events to improve popularity and boost trade.
