Xi Jinping's reelection as president of China is the will of the people, as under his leadership the country will achieve the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, said the country's national legislators and political advisors.

Xi was unanimously elected president and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China on Friday at the ongoing session of the 14th National People's Congress, China's national legislature.

"Under Xi's leadership, we are more confident about the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," said Liu Qing, an NPC deputy with the Jiangsu province delegation and president of Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute.

Liu was among the NPC deputies who shared their thoughts on China's development under Xi during a panel discussion of the delegation. He said he has been thinking about how to better achieve self-reliance in science and technology and cannot wait to put his new ideas into action.

Kong Feifei, an NPC deputy with the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region delegation and deputy Party secretary of Qapqal township, Qapqal Xibe autonomous prefecture, said when the result of the vote for the Chinese president appeared on the screen, the NPC deputies all stood up and broke into loud applause for Xi's reelection.

"We are all very happy about the result. Once again, Xi was elected as Chinese president unanimously. It has fully represented the will of the NPC deputies, and more importantly, the will of the people from all ethnic groups," said Kong, a member of the Xibe ethnic group.

Kurban Niyaz, also an NPC deputy with the Xinjiang delegation and the headmaster of a primary school in Aksu prefecture, said it's a great responsibility to vote as a representative of the people.

"Our votes are the choices of the people who all believe in Xi from the bottom of their hearts. I believe that under the new central leadership headed by Xi, people can become more united and contribute more to making the country more prosperous," said Kurban, from the Uygur ethnic group.

Zhang Qi, a member of 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference — the national political advisory — said Xi's reelection is very encouraging.

"With Xi steering the country, the whole-process people's democracy will be better enforced, and China can stay on the path of high-quality development," said Zhang, who is from an investment company in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions congratulated Xi.

John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of Hong Kong, expressed his congratulations on behalf of the Hong Kong government and the city's residents.

Under Xi's leadership, Hong Kong has entered a new phase of development and has achieved long-term prosperity and stability, Lee said in a statement.

Ho Iat-seng, chief executive of Macao, said in a statement that his city would continue to support Xi as head of state and chairman of the Central Military Commission. Xi's reelection was the choice of history and of all Chinese people, including those in Macao, Ho said.
