Rowers participate in Qintong Boat Festival in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, on April 8. Hundreds of boats gathered for the festival, which was first held over 800 years ago after Yue Fei, a gallant general of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), led his men to fight a heroic battle against the invading Jin army on Qintong Lake. Local fishermen rowed their boats to commemorate the battle and its victims, and the event later became an annual folk tradition. The festival was named a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008. [Photo/Xinhua]
