Giant panda Ya Ya returned to its home in Beijing Zoo early on Monday after spending 20 years in the United States.
On April 27, giant panda Ya Ya arrived in Shanghai from the Memphis Zoo of Tennessee. The panda was then quarantined before moving to Beijing.
The Beijing Zoo has prepared a special feeding place for giant panda Ya Ya as well as tailor-made feeding measures, care, medical support and nutrition plans, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
As Ya Ya is old and needs rest and adapt to a new environment, she will not be on public display for the time being. The zoo will periodically release updates on Ya Ya through its official Weibo account, according to the administration.
Born at the Beijing Zoo, Ya Ya was taken to the Memphis Zoo in Tennessee in 2003 for a joint research and conservation project, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
In 2006, Ya Ya began to shed her fur, a condition that worsened in 2014. Experts at the Memphis Zoo and in China tried various treatments but were unable to solve the problem, the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens said.
