Qingxin Homestay is one of the high-end homestays in the village. It combines accommodations with terraced fields and mountains to give city slickers a taste of rural life while helping farmers diversify their revenue streams.

Zhang Lefang said choosing to run a high-end business arose from the differentiated styles. In 2014, he invested more than 7 million yuan ($980,000) to build a villa on top of the mountain, along with eight homestays.

"Now our homestay generates an annual income of 200,000 yuan to 300,000 yuan. Last year we improved the accommodation facilities, and this year we plan to create a tea culture-themed homestay," he said.
