China's civil aviation authority will continue to promote the steady and orderly resumption of international flights as the first summer season since China optimized its COVID-19 management measures approaches, an official from the Civil Aviation Administration of China said on Friday.

From June 5 to 11, the number of China's international inbound and outbound passenger flights reached 5,822, involving 61 countries, said Li Yong, deputy director of the administration's safety office.

Li made the remarks at a news conference in Beijing.

"It is expected that the number [of international passenger flights] will increase to more than 6,000 every week during the summer travel season," he said, adding that the administration will continue to review the applications of Chinese and foreign airlines looking to operate such flights in a timely manner to ensure the safe, smooth and orderly recovery of global air travel.

China anticipates strong demand for international flights this summer, with people endeavoring to go on vacations and visit relatives and friends overseas.
