Ambassador: Educational and cultural exchanges conducive to China-UK relations

On 23 June 2023, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang met with Scott McDonald, Chief Executive of the British Council. They exchanged views on educational cooperation between China and the UK.
Ambassador Zheng spoke highly of the efforts made by the British Council over the years in promoting practical cooperation on education and culture between the two countries. The Ambassador said that educational and cultural exchanges between the two sides, which are diverse in form, rich in content, and mutually beneficial, have contributed significantly to the growth of bilateral ties. The Ambassador expressed hope that visionary people from both countries will maintain a long-term perspective and continue to support educational and cultural collaboration, in particular, in the areas of Chinese language teaching and student exchange programmes, in order to deepen the understanding and friendship among the younger generations and foster a solid social foundation for the healthy development of China-UK relations.
Chief Executive McDonald briefly introduced the functions and main work of the British Council. He said that the UK-China relationship is of great importance, and that the Council has always valued the educational partnership between the two countries, are committed to promoting people-to-people exchanges, and will continue to support bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of education and culture.
