Hero's ultimate sacrifice celebrated in opera

Chinese opera, Tong Xin Jie, or Chinese Knot, will be staged at the China National Opera House in Beijing from July 21 to 23.

Produced by the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, the opera tells the story of Huang Jiguang, who sacrificed his life in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53). Featuring Chinese tenor Wang Hongwei playing the lead role, the opera portrays how Huang joined the army, fought bravely with his companions and finally devoted his life to the country.

Premiered in 1981, the Chinese opera was written by playwright Tian Chuan, Ren Ping and composed by Huang Qinghe, Wang Yunzhi and Liu Yimin.
