First Global Youth Bilingual Broadcast Announcing and Anchoring Contest launched in Beijing

The first Global Youth Bilingual Broadcast Announcing and Anchoring Contest, which aims to discover and cultivate outstanding bilingual hosts and anchors globally, was successfully launched in Beijing on Tuesday morning.

The competition is sponsored by the Communication University of China (CUC) and organized by the School of International Studies at CUC. The event is jointly organized by China Daily New Media Center.

Themed "10 Years of Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind, and 45 Years of Reform and Opening-Up," the competition also aims to promote language exchange and intercultural communication, foster a culture of bilingual hosting and anchoring, and share China's fascinating stories with the world.

In his speech, Jin Wei, the presidential assistant of the Communication University of China, emphasized the university's commitment to nurturing young talents and cultivating innovative media professionals. He explained that the purpose of this competition is to discover and support exceptional young hosts, provide a platform for cross-cultural exchange and collaboration, and contribute to the development of the bilingual hosting and broadcasting industry. He further highlighted the competition's aim to attract young leaders, promote positive values, and contribute to global peace and development.

Li Changxiang, the deputy chief of China Daily New Media Center, stated that China Daily has long been dedicated to international exchanges and serves as a gathering place for bilingual communication talents. He underscored the crucial role of hosts and anchors as bridges for cultural and values exchanges in the era of media integration. Proficiency in both Chinese and English is vital for inheriting and developing Chinese culture and building a modern civilization. Li expressed his hope that the competition would identify and support exceptional bilingual hosts and anchors, promoting mutual learning between Eastern and Western cultures and fostering international cooperation and peace.

Yang Jinhua, the founder of MIAOJINGYA and the cooperative partner of this competition, highlighted the brand's goal of assisting bilingual hosts and anchors in their growth and success. She also emphasized the brand's contribution to helping Chinese companies and brands enter the international market while promoting the standardization, specialization, and international development of the bilingual hosting and broadcasting industry.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Wen Chunying, dean of the School of International Studies at CUC, and a doctoral supervisor. She announced the start of the contest, with entries accepted until Oct 25, 2023. The awards ceremony will be held in December 2023.

During the opening ceremony, a donation ceremony for the Communication University of China's Special Fund for the Development of Bilingual Anchor Talents was also held. The fund, donated by Nandou Changsheng (Beijing) Biotechnology Co., Ltd. to the Communication University of China Public Welfare Foundation, will be used to support the training of bilingual host talents, curriculum development, internships, international exchanges, academic research and laboratory construction, among other initiatives.

Competition information

I. Annual Theme

The year 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of a Community of Shared Future for Mankind initiative and the 45th anniversary of China's reform and opening up.

This year's contest focuses on family, friendship and love, and combines its current hot topics in the fields of food, tourism, sports, health, culture and art, etc.

The contest requires you to design a 3-5 minutes’ bilingual announcing and anchoring work to show your bilingual announcing and anchoring ability and style to share China's wonderful stories to the world.

II. Qualifications

  1. Dedicated to announcing and anchoring;
  2. Able to communicate fluently in Mandarin and one or two other foreign languages;
  3. A decent image and good health;
  4. No illegal, disciplinary and other adverse records;
  5. No limitation on your nationality.

III. Participating Groups

  1. Generation Y : born between 1980 and 1995
  2. Generation Z: born between 1996 and 2009
  3. Generation Alpha: born after 2010

IV. Ways to participate

【Picture Materials】

  1. One 1-inch ID photo (with a white background and no special treatment);
  2. Two daily photos (at least one full body photo without any special treatment);
  3. If you have participated in programs or TV dramas, you can provide a total of 2 makeup photos or stills.

【Video Materials】

Video 1: Self introduction (within 60 seconds, mainly in Mandarin);

Video 2: Exhibition of Talent and Expertise

(within 60 seconds and with unlimited forms, such as singing, dancing, instrument performance, traditional Chinese opera, calligraphy, painting, sports, etc.;

if there are other past outstanding talent works, please attach a separate link in the "Past Excellent Works" column);

Video 3: Bilingual Announcing or Anchoring Works

(3-5 minutes, design a simulated announcing or anchoring section by yourself;

One language must be Mandarin Chinese, and there are no restrictions on other foreign languages.

【Video Content Requirements】

  1. There is no limit to the form of expression, which should reflect the individual characteristics of the contestants;
  2. The content should be healthy and vivid. There should be no content that violates laws, regulations and public policies;
  3. Clear speech and fluent expression;
  4. The image of contestants should be decent and appropriate. Contestants can wear light makeups.

【Requirements of Video Technology】

  1. Clear voices and character images;
  2. Video format: The video ratio is 16:9, with banner shooting;
  3. File format: MP4 (1080p image quality);
  4. Video size: A single video file should not exceed 500mb;

V. Awards

Gold: ¥20,000

Silver: ¥10,000

Bronze: ¥5,000

Finalist: ¥1,000

Meanwhile, the Award for the Best Performance, the Award for the Most Potential Performance, the Award for the Best Language, the Award for the Best Announcer, the Award for the Most Popularity, the Award for the Best Story, the Award for the Best Creativity, the Award for the Best Style, the Award for the Most Charming Voice, the Award for the Most Active Performance will be selected.

In addition, the Award for the Excellent Organization for the participating units which select numerous contestants and impressive entries will be selected by the awarding committee.
