With the trial operation of the new extension the Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan province, an animated movie inspired by some of its most valuable artifacts has also unveiled its “mask”.

Heroes of the Golden Mask, scheduled to be shown this year, released a conceptual poster on the same day as the new venue‘s test run began on Thursday.

Together with two halls of the old building, thecombined facilities that now form the Sanxingdui Museum have been a top draw for travelers who are interested in the archeological site, which is believed to be a city of the ancient state of Shu, dating back 2,800 years to 4,800 years ago.

With a runtime of approximately 90 minutes, the film follows the journey of a boy who accidentally travels back in time to the ancient city during its prosperous era. He becomes entangled in a crucial conflict, joining forces with those representing justice to combat an evil force.

The movie uses its imagination to retell stories of the most renowned artifacts from the archaeological site, including a gold mask with hollow eyes and a bronze sculpture resembling a mythological tree. It also incorporates some elements inspired from the legends of Atlantis and the Aztec civilization.

The film is produced by the Sichuan Cultural Industry Investment Group and supported by the Sanxingdui Museum.
