The Chongqing People's Procuratorate has approved the arrest of Jiao Xiaoping, former deputy commander of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, on suspicion of bribery, according to a statement issued by the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Wednesday.
The National Supervisory Commission recently concluded its investigation into Jiao and transferred the case to the procuratorate for review and prosecution.
The SPP designated the Chongqing People's Procuratorate to handle the case, which is in progress.
Jiao, 57, violated the new development concept and interfered with the implementation of the policy of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality, according to the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the NSC.
He also ignored the central government's requirements for ecological and environmental protection in the Qinling Mountains and helped people develop hydropower plants there, harming the local ecology. He also exacerbated the government's hidden debt risk and created hidden financial security risks.
Jiao once held multiple positions under the Ministry of Finance. He was elected deputy commander of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in June 2022.
The investigation began in February, and he was expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public posts in July.
