"The increase in passenger trips reflects the strong recovery of China's economy, with a trend of high willingness of people to travel across the country," said Peng Xiang, chief engineer of the passenger transport department of China Railway Guangzhou Group.
To meet the demand for travel, the railway operator launched a series of special tourism trains, covering routes between Shenzhen and Guangzhou in Guangdong province and major tourism destinations.
Guangdong has become one of the main engines for the increased trips, accounting for 64.8 percent of the passenger flows during the summer travel rush.
