Terrace preservation urged at farming conference in Hunan

They called for the promotion of best practices, which include collecting and sharing successful global cases of terrace preservation and development. They also encouraged the government to adopt comprehensive and sustainable strategies and implement policies favorable such best practices, including but not limited to land use policies, agricultural policies, and tourism policies.

Luodi is home to the Ziquejie Terraces, originating from the Qin (221-206 BC) and Han (206 BC-AD 220) dynasties.

The terraces have been recognized as a "Globally Important Agricultural Heritage" by the UN'S Food and Agriculture Organization and the World List of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage as a unique type of agricultural irrigation.

Covering a total area of more than 5,000 hectares, the Ziquejie Terraces are built on hills with an altitude of 500 to 1200 meters and a surface slope of 30 to 50 degrees.
