US retail sales beat expectations, could prompt Fed to raise rates again

US retail sales rose 0.7 percent in September from the previous month, well above the market forecast of 0.3 percent, achieving the sixth consecutive month of growth, data released Tuesday by the US Commerce Department showed. Continued strength in consumer demand could prompt the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates again before the end of the year.
