Zhejiang orchestra holds concerts

Under the baton of conductor Zhang Yi, the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra staged two concerts, titled The Tide to the Sea, in Macao and Hong Kong on Sunday and Tuesday.

Original Chinese music works, including the fourth movement of Above the Great Tide by Wang Danhong, which recounts the history and reality of Zhejiang province. Others staged during the concerts were a one-movement piece titled Yu Wan Piao Xiang (Delicious Meal From Jade Bowl) composed by Wu Na, about Zhejiang cuisine and Mai (Pulse), composed by Zhao Guang, commissioned by the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the cultural achievements of the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

Western classical music works were also featured during the two concerts, such as Symphony No 2 in C Minor by Anton Bruckner.

During encore, the orchestra returned with Ping Hu Qiu Yue (Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake), adapted from the Chinese piano solo with the same title.
