Peking Opera festival set to open in Chengdu

The 10th China Peking Opera Art Festival will take place in Chengdu, Sichuan province, from Dec 15 to Jan 21, announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Dec 8.

Award-winning Peking Opera performers including Du Zhenjie, Wang Peiyu and Zhang Huifang, will gather in Chengdu, performing classic and contemporary Peking Opera works.

The festival will also feature young Peking Opera performers, displaying their training achievements.

Peking Opera has a history of more than 200 years and was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010. It brings together art forms such as singing, dancing, martial arts and acrobatics.

Since 1995, China Peking Opera Art Festival has been held for nine times.

It offers a platform for displaying and promoting Peking Opera artists as well as popularizing the ancient art form among the audiences, especially the younger generation.
