Now that the last shield tunneling machine has started its work, all six such machines are fully operating for constructing a subway line in the section of Hebei province. The construction marks a new step in building the first intercity subway line between Beijing and Hebei, according to a constructor in Langfang, Hebei.

The Beijing Subway Line 22 (Pinggu Line) is about 81.2 kilometers long and connects 21 stations, according to China First Highway Engineering Co., Ltd, one of the line's constructors.

After the project is completed and opened to traffic, it will take as little as nine minutes to travel from Sanhe, Dachang, and Xianghe counties in Langfang to reach Beijing's sub-center in Tongzhou district, and a quick 32 minutes to get to Beijing's CBD area near Dongdaqiao Station, the company said.

It added that the subway line will significantly reduce the travel time between Beijing and Hebei, greatly improving the efficiency of cross-city commuting for the public.
