Former head of Beijing IP Court sentenced to over 10 years for bribery

Su Chi, former president of the Beijing Intellectual Property Court, was sentenced to 10 years and six months in prison for the crime of bribery, according to the ruling issued by Beijing No 4 Intermediate People's Court.

Along with a fine of 800,000 yuan ($112,000), the bribes, as well as interest on the amount, Su has been ordered to turn over to the national treasury, the ruling added.

The exact sum of Su's bribes has not been disclosed.

Su, 66, a Beijing native who graduated from Peking University Law School, started his career in 1976, and joined the Communist Party of China in 1986.

He worked for the city's court system for many years. In July 2013, he served as vice-president of the Beijing No 2 Intermediate People's Court, and a year later, he became president of the Beijing IP Court.

In August 2022, he was placed under probe over suspected serious violations of the Party discipline and the law.

In July, he was expelled from the Party, as the law enforcer was found to have been engaged in trading for money and sex and sought benefits for others by using his positions in exchange for money or assets.
