China Shanghai International Arts Festival announced its new programs for the year 2024, including multiple shows by the Berliner Philharmoniker from Germany and a residential project of the Beijing People's Art Theater.
The festival held a news conference on Jan 18 and announced the upcoming 23rd installment of the festival will take place from Oct 18 to Nov 17.
Internationally-acclaimed organizations such as the Wiener Philharmoniker from Austria, London Symphony Orchestra from the United Kingdom, Munchner Philharmoniker from Germany, the Boishoi Theatre, and the Mariinsky Ballet from Russia, and Ballets de Monte-Carlo "have all received our invitation and are expected to perform in Shanghai in the coming autumn," said Li Ming, president of the CSIAF Center.
The Berliner Philharmoniker will arrive in Shanghai in June. Led by its chief conductor Kirill Petrenko and Chinese pianist Yuja Wang, the Berliner Philharmoniker will present four symphony concerts at the Shanghai Grand Theater.
The orchestra will have an exclusive residential program in Shanghai from June 24 to July 2 consisting of a series of chamber music concerts, masters' classes and other art educational events. Ticket sales for the concerts will kick off by the end of February.
