Five years after novelist-turned-director Han Han's comedy Pegasus soared as one of the highest-grossing blockbusters during Spring Festival in 2019, the filmmaker has returned to the fiercely contending box-office period with the long-awaited sequel Pegasus 2.
The movie held a promotional event on Monday, attended by Han and its major cast actors, namely Shen Teng, Fan Chengcheng, Zhang Benyu, Sun Yizhou and Wei Xiang.
Reprising Shen as Zhang Chi, a former car racing champion who has become a down-and-out driving school instructor, the film unfolds with the protagonist unexpectedly finding a stroke of luck coming his way. He is offered a financial sponsorship to compete in a high-profile racing rally by the head of a vehicle factory. However, his passion to return to the podium has experienced a series of unexpected difficulties.
Han, also a former professional car racer, said that the script has been revised multiple times, and the final version quickly drew Shen to return to the franchise, despite the top comedian star then being in a recovering phase after surgery.
The film will be released across domestic theaters on the first day of the Year of the Dragon, which will fall on Feb 10.
