Quick counts show Prabowo Subianto leads in Indonesia's presidential election

JAKARTA -- Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto took the lead in Indonesia's presidential election as he secured more than 58 percent of votes from over 90 percent of votes counted in various quick counts on Wednesday night.

The quick counts were conducted by at least six leading pollsters live-streamed on the country's local news portals about one hour after voting ended at 1:00 pm local time.

Pollster LSI Denny JA showed Subianto was leading at 58.24 percent, beating his rivals Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo at 25.14 percent and 16.61 percent respectively.

Cyrus Network and think-tank Center for Strategic and International Studies saw Subianto securing 58.36 percent of votes, while Baswedan secured 24.93 percent. Pranowo was left behind with 16.72 percent.

Kedai Kopi also showed Subianto was leading Baswedan and Pranowo by 58.99 percent to 24.25 percent and 16.76 percent.

Populi Center saw Subianto win 59.25 percent, while Baswedan and Pranowo followed with 25.12 percent and 15.63 percent.

Charta Politika showed Subianto got 57.75 percent, while Baswedan and Pranowo took 25.75 percent and 16.48 percent of the votes. The pollster elaborated that Subianto won more than 50 percent of votes in more than 25 provinces across the country.

"Based on the quick counts, it can even be statistically declared that Subianto will win in just one round," said Charta Politika Executive Director Yunarto Wijaya.

The official results by Indonesia's National Election Commission will be released in mid-March.
