OTTAWA - One person died Wednesday after the load a crane was carrying came crashing down at a Vancouver construction site in Canada, local media reported.

There were no other injuries, CTV News reported, citing Vancouver Fire Rescue Services.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and more than 1,700 workers were evacuated, the report said.

The crane itself remains intact and the load that came down damaged the lower floors of the building under construction.

WorkSafeBC, an agency for workplace safety, described the accident as "serious," according to the report.
