Three years after the colossal clash of Godzilla and Kong on the silver screen, these iconic monsters are once again wreaking havoc in theaters with their latest epic showdown, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

As the fifth installment in the Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse franchise, this new movie has surged to the top of the country's box-office charts since its debut on Friday, grossing an impressive 320 million yuan ($44.28 million).

This visual treat for die-hard fans is packed with action sequences, recounting the arrival of a new threat that shatters the peaceful existence of Kong, the colossal prehistoric ape residing in Hollow Earth, compelling him to seek assistance from Godzilla, the ancient titan who absorbs even more nuclear energy to enhance his power.

For the first time, the new movie was filmed using IMAX-certified digital cameras and includes over 45 minutes of scenes presented in IMAX's special aspect ratio, allowing the audience to experience 26 percent more visual content compared to regular theater screens.

Adam Wingard, the director of the 2021 and this year's Godzilla and Kong films, said during a promotional video that if there's anything made for the IMAX experience, it must include Godzilla and Kong, as they are among the rare "movie stars" standing over 90 meters tall.

A premiere was held in Beijing last week, attended by many local fans and some celebrities, including Tang Kai, China's first men's MMA world champion.

Tang said that he resonated with the powerful alliance of Godzilla and Kong and their fight for home, emphasizing that their collaboration symbolizes defending one's homeland, portraying a deeply moving embodiment of positive energy.
