dknews.kz | Updated: 2024-04-14 16:48

The total number of brokerage accounts in the nominee holding system of the Central Securities Depository (KCSD) has reached 2,792,540 as of April 1, 2024, of which 707,330 accounts represent subaccounts of holders and the remaining 2,085,210 accounts represent brokerage accounts of holders registered through omnibus accounts in the Central Securities Depository, DKNews.kz reports.

In the first quarter of 2024, the total number of accounts in the nominee holding system of the Central Securities Depository increased by 347,200 accounts, and it is worth noting that 97 percent of the growth comes from omnibus accounts.

Below is a portrait of a Kazakhstani investor compiled using data on subaccounts opened directly in the KCSD's recordkeeping system. In accordance with the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, information on investors whose financial instruments are recorded on omnibus accounts cannot be disclosed.

The investors' gender distribution continues to follow the previously observed trends: the proportion of female investors has remained at the level of 49.8 percent, while the proportion of male investors remains at 50.2 percent. This balance has been maintained since April 2023 and, based on the results of the first quarter of 2024, these indicators have not changed.

The age group between 35 and 54 still represents the largest number of investors, accounting for 38.7 percent of the total number of investors in February. Over the first quarter of 2024, there has been a slight increase of 0.7 percent in this age group. (38 percent in January)

The second largest group of investors are people aged between 25 and 34. As of April 1, 2024, they represent 31.5 percent of the total number of investors. Their proportion remained virtually unchanged in the first quarter of this year, rising by just 0.1 percent. (31.4 percent in January)

The third largest age group is investors aged between 18 and 24, who accounted for 15.4 percent of investors as of April 1, 2024. In the first quarter of 2024, the proportion of young investors in this age group fell by 0.9 percent. (16.3 percent in January)

It is worth noting that the first quarter of this year has seen an increase in the number of investors aged over 55. In January 2024, their proportion amounted to 14.2 percent and as of April 1, 2024, their proportion has risen to 14.4 percent. Although the increase is not significant, this age group is likely to become one of the top three in the near future, as the number of investors aged between 18 and 24, who are currently in third place, is decreasing.

In terms of territorial distribution, the traditional leaders are Almaty (20.7 percent) and Astana (11.2 percent). The Turkestan region (9.1 percent) is once again in third place and has been holding its own since March 2022.

As of April 1, 2024, the share of Almaty has slightly decreased by 0.4 percent, while the shares of Astana and the Turkestan region have each increased by 0.1 percent compared to January 2024 (in January, the share of Almaty was 20.3 percent, Astana - 11.3 percent and the Turkestan region - 9.2 percent).

The smallest number of investors is in the North Kazakhstan region, where the number of subaccounts represents only 1.6 percent of the total number of investors in Kazakhstan. Their share fell by 0.1 percent in the first quarter of 2024.
