Around a dozen representatives from European embassies and cultural institutes gathered at the EU delegation to China's Beijing station on Tuesday afternoon for a press conference hosted by EUNIC China, the European network of organizations engaging in cultural relations in China. The focus of the event was on EUNIC China's themed campaign for this year centered on the issue of disability.

Titled "There is ability in disability" this year's EUNIC campaign aims to utilize culture in order to raise awareness about disability issues, showcase the resilience of disabled individuals in everyday life, and foster exchanges between Europe and China on this topic. The goal is to contribute to improving the quality of life for disabled individuals and their families both in Europe and China.

Each member of EUNIC will incorporate activities related to the disability issue into its 2024 action plan. These activities will include movie screenings, live performances, exhibitions and other events held in collaboration with Chinese partners such as galleries, libraries, and disabled persons associations. The campaign will run from April to December, with events planned throughout the year.

Nestor Tyrovouzis, head of public affairs of the Greek Embassy in China and co-president of EUNIC China, said, "We consider this campaign as an opportunity to share experiences between Europe and China to further contribute to promoting the quality of life of disabled people and their families."
