China has secured nine out of the world's 50 tunneling and underground space projects to be showcased during the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of the International Tunneling and Underground Space Association (ITA).

The association selected 50 representative and influential landmark projects from approximately 170 major infrastructure projects recommended by member countries and relevant units of ITA.

The projects were unveiled and showcased during the World Tunnel Congress, which was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, on Tuesday. The congress demonstrated the world's significant breakthroughs and developmental milestones in tunnel excavation technology and practice over the past half-century.

Seven of China's nine landmark projects are attributed to the China Railway Tunnel Group.

China Railway Tunnel Group has developed a shield tunnel intelligent construction system centered around smart technology, including smart excavation, assembly, collaboration, diagnostics, detection, component production, logistics and ventilation.

According to the company, the system has been used in key projects such as the Shanghai Airport Link Line and the Pearl River Estuary Tunnel of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway.
