China's parcel delivery sector handled about 4.03 billion parcels during the 5-day May Day holiday, which ended on Sunday, the State Post Bureau of China said on Monday.

Of the total, nearly 2 billion parcels were collected during the period, with a daily average collection volume showing a remarkable 32.7 percent year-on-year increase, while 2.03 billion parcels were delivered, with a daily average delivery volume showing a substantial 28.6 percent year-on-year growth.

The sector's growth has showcased China's economic vitality and resilience.

During the holiday, China saw about 295 million domestic tourist trips, up 7.6 percent year-on-year and 28.2 percent from the same period in 2019, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Domestic tourist expenditure during the period totaled 166.89 billion yuan (about $23.51 billion), up 13.5 percent from the same period in 2019.

The parcel delivery sector has seized the opportunity to offer services such as tourism souvenirs, local specialties and luggage delivery.

For example, in Chongqing, a popular tourism destination, parcel delivery companies collaborated with renowned attractions such as the zoo and the city's old street to offer convenient express delivery services to travelers. Moving parcel delivery vehicles are added in the sites to collect consignments to benefit tourists while they had a-wander around.

China's parcel delivery sector has seen rapid development in the past 20 years, increasing the convenience of people's lives.
