An inspection to see whether the Intangible Cultural Heritage Law works effectively was launched on Tuesday, said the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

It is the first time that the 14th NPC Standing Committee inspected the implementation of a law in the cultural field, with the aims of promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of the fine traditional Chinese cultures and also accelerating the construction of a strong cultural country.

To achieve the goals, the NPC Standing Committee has established a few teams that will visit intangible cultural venues and inheritors in provinces of Shanxi, Jilin, Fujian, Shandong, Guangdong and Yunnan as well as Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions, in the following four months.

Meanwhile, it has also required local legislative bodies in Shanghai and provinces of Hebei, Heilongjiang, Zhejiang, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Gansu to do similar jobs in their own areas during the period.

The NPC Standing Committee revealed that the focus of the inspection will mainly include whether intangible cultural heritages are identified, recorded, protected, passed on and rationally utilized in accordance with law, which took effect in June 2011.

A draft report of the inspection is scheduled to be completed in late September, and is expected to be reviewed by national lawmakers in late October, it added.
