Business leaders and government officials attending the 3rd UK-China Business Leaders Summit in London on Tuesday said economic and trade cooperation between China and the United Kingdom should be expanded amidst global turbulence and changes.
In his keynote speech, Zheng Zeguang, China's ambassador to the UK, said Sino-British cooperation is mutually beneficial and aligns with the fundamental interests of the people of both countries, emphasizing that it should not be disturbed by the so-called "peak China" theory or "overcapacity" narratives.
"We should not be caught up in those remarks made by some of the Western politicians," he said. "We must adhere to the overall direction of dialogue and cooperation, and continue to explore new opportunities for win-win cooperation."
Zheng highlighted that British investment in China increased last year despite volatile times, while Chinese companies also show a proactive attitude towards expanding investment in the UK.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, British investment in China jumped by 81 percent year-on-year in 2023.
"Regardless of any changes in the political landscape of the UK, we will work together with wise individuals from all sectors of the UK to advance Sino-British relations based on mutual respect, mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit," he said.
