Global leading hospitality group Hilton and the Hilton Global Foundation (HGF) have reaffirmed their commitment to sustainability with the release of the 2023 Hilton Travel with Purpose Report and 2023 Hilton Global Foundation Impact Report.
Hilton reported a 45.1 percent reduction in carbon emissions intensity across managed hotels and a 25.1 percent reduction in franchised hotels compared to a 2008 baseline. Water use intensity among managed hotels decreased by 26.5 percent, while land-filled waste intensity dropped by 63.7 percent, surpassing the initial 2030 reduction target.
Since 2023, Hilton has intensified its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) efforts in China. For example, the introduction of Winnow's AI technology across the region exemplifies efforts to combat food waste, enabling precise measurement and analysis for informed decision-making in food preparation. This initiative will expand to more hotels in the Chinese market.
Hilton's hotels in China are fostering a greener future together with its guests. Initiatives include minimizing plastic waste, promoting low-carbon travel and offering sustainable event options. Moreover, all Hilton hotels in the region have transitioned to full-sized bath amenities, reducing single-use plastics. Over 130 hotels have implemented digital key technology by May 2024.
Jin Qian, president of Hilton Greater China and Mongolia, said the company's efforts align with China's "dual carbon" goals and show its strong commitment to advancing "travel with purpose" initiatives.
"As the tourism industry in China rebounds, Hilton pledges to deliver diverse guest experiences while collaborating with stakeholders to innovate localized ESG practices," said the president.
This comprehensive approach underscores Hilton's leadership in sustainability within the hospitality sector, driving meaningful environmental and social impact across China, he said.
