Asia sweeps second Belt and Road International Skills Competition

The second Belt and Road International Skills Competition ended in Southwest China's Chongqing city on Wednesday night.

Fourteen golds out of the total 18 were won by teams from countries and regions in Asia, three by those from Europe and one from Oceania, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, one of the organizers of the competition.

Phengyang Yiachue, bronze winner of the rail signal control technology from Laos, said that he has gained very useful experience from the competition and learned a lot by meeting competitors from different countries and regions.

Ahmed Faozi from Morocco said the experience and knowledge he learned from the competition will inspire his future life and career. He won a bronze medal at the automobile technology (new energy) event at the competition.

"The competition has increased the public's attention and recognition of skilled talent, which also plays an important role of cultivating the skilled for the Belt and Road nations," said Xie Liguo, Party secretary of Chongqing's human resources and social security bureau, at a news conference held in the city on Thursday morning.

He said the 18 events staged at the competition are closely related with new professions in sectors of digital economy, modern services and manufacturing, which can serve the high quality development of the countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The three-day competition ran from Monday to Wednesday, and attracted 190 contestants from 61 countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. They competed for top honors in 18 events, including beauty therapy, information network cabling, and optoelectronic technology.

China first organized the competition for Belt and Road nations in 2019 in Chongqing.
