The Ministry of Finance announced on Thursday that it plans to increase the duty-free shopping quota for resident travelers entering the Chinese mainland from Hong Kong and Macao.

For resident travelers who are 18-years-old or above entering the mainland from Hong Kong or Macao, if the personal and reasonable luggage and goods they have obtained value 12,000 yuan ($1,651) or less, they will be granted tax-free entry.

At the same time, at ports where inbound duty-free stores are established, the aforementioned travelers will be allowed to purchase a certain quantity of duty-free goods at those stores - they will be allowed for duty-free entry if the total value of these goods, together with the personal and reasonable luggage and goods they have obtained is 15,000 yuan or less.
