Local authorities make efforts to prevent more dike breaks in Dongting Lake

Since June 16, the province has recorded historic rainfall, with an average rainfall of 310.2 mm as of July 3 — 150 percent higher than average and the highest since 1961, according to the Hunan Meteorological Center.

The first flood of the year in Dongting Lake formed at 9 am on June 30, with the water level at the Chenglingji hydrological station surpassing the warning level of 33 meters.
