Wind, solar power surpasses coal power

China's combined installed capacity of wind and solar power has surpassed that of its coal power for the first time at the end of June, data from the China Electricity Council showed on Wednesday.
Amid the country's efforts to accelerate the development of wind power and solar power, the combined power generation capacity of the two hit 1.18 billion kilowatts at the end of last month, up 37.2 percent year-on-year, it said.
China's total installed power generation capacity reached around 3.07 billion kilowatts by the end of June, up 14.1 percent from a year earlier. Among this, coal power accounted for 1.17 billion kilowatts, making up 38.1 percent of the total installed power generation capacity, a decrease of 4.3 percentage points compared to the previous year, it said.
