Viral sensation: young artist recreates childhood balcony memories
A young man from Southwest China's Chongqing went viral recently for creating roughly 30 miniature replicas of old-fashioned residential balconies to reminisce about his childhood.
"The old balconies with mosaic bricks that I saw in my childhood are a symbol of that era," said 24-year-old Zeng Yutian, the creator.
Zeng came up with the idea of putting together one such balcony last year. He said the first palm-sized miniature took him over a month to complete. As he made more, his fingers peeled due to prolonged crafting sessions.
His creations have resonated with netizens on the online lifestyle-sharing platform Xiaohongshu. Zeng is now building exclusive balcony miniatures for online buyers. Each balcony costs about 200 yuan ($27.65).
He created several miniature car scene models in his teenage years, mainly using recycled materials like cardboard and fabric.
He plans to collaborate with factories to design material kits and DIY crafts tutorials so that more people can make their own art.
