On Tuesday, representatives from Zhejiang University donated a compendium of ancient Chinese paintings to the University of Tokyo in a display of cultural exchange.

During a donation ceremony, Jin Xiaoming, deputy director of Zhejiang University's Ancient Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Research Center, handed over the books to Nakajima Takahiro of Tokyo University's Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia.

In a speech, Nakajima thanked Zhejiang University for contributing to his institute's research on Asian cultures.

The event was witnessed by Zhejiang University alumni, Japanese artists, and students from universities in Tokyo.

Following the donation ceremony, the representatives toured the institute's research rooms and extensive library collections and discussed the relationship between imagery and art, culture, history, and the paintings of China and Japan. They also explored future directions and prospects for enhanced cooperation in Asian cultural research.

The compendium, A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings, is the result of a project Zhejiang University launched in 2005. The 226 book collection catalogs 12,405 artworks from the pre-Qin period (before 221 BC) to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The donation marks a milestone in academic exchange and resource sharing between Zhejiang University and the University of Tokyo, laying a foundation for more research achievements in the humanities between China and Japan.
