SEOUL -- The top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) oversaw on Saturday a drone performance test organized by the Drone Institute of the Academy of Defence Sciences, the DPRK's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Monday.

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, got first-hand information on the drones currently being developed, which are intended to strike enemy forces on the ground and at sea, the report said.

During the test, drones of various types accurately identified and destroyed the designated targets after following different preset flight routes, it added.

Noting that developing different types of drones and enhancing their combat capabilities play an important role in war preparations, the DPRK leader stressed the need to ramp up drone development and production, urging more intensive testing of their combat applications and the swift equipping of military units with them, the report said.
