Shanghai-born contemporary artist Zhu Peihong, who has successfully hosted two solo exhibitions in Harvey Galleries in Sydney, Australia, in 2018 and 2020, said he is proud that he could help promote international cultural exchanges and boost Sino-Australian ties.

Trevor Harvey, the gallery owner of Harvey Galleries, said: "Zhu Peihong's exhibitions in Australia not only earned him recognition on the international art stage, but also brought greater global visibility to Chinese contemporary art."

The two countries established diplomatic relations on Dec 21, 1972. The 9th China-Australia Annual Leaders' Meeting in June this year called on both sides to advance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Following his successful exhibitions in Australia, Zhu is planning to hold his solo exhibition Evolution of Space at Pearl Lam Galleries Shanghai between Sept 7 and Oct 20, marking his first domestic gallery showcase of his latest artistic creations.

Regarding the upcoming exhibition, Zhu said: "I am very pleased to hold a solo exhibition in my hometown of Shanghai. Evolution of Space will be a diverse and exploratory exhibition."

The abstract painting series My Space is a signature work of Zhu, who has been continuously creating this series since 2010.

Based on his memories of urban life and his perception of living spaces, Zhu is trying to make his work more original and unique.

Renowned artist Xu Bing noted: "The large-scale acrylic work My Space by Zhu Peihong, with its intriguing and mysterious forms, is highly captivating. He has considered many aspects, but without leaving too many traces."

The largest piece and the central work in the new exhibition — "My Space 2010-2014-2024" — spans 12 meters, fully reflecting Zhu's exploration of spatial and temporal dimensions in painting, and serving as a starting point to showcase his artistic evolution from abstract painting to other cross-media art forms.
