Tsinghua University has long championed athletic excellence, and this year, three of its students proudly represented China at the Paris Olympics. In a meeting on Monday, the university's president Li Luming welcomed Adidas CEO Bjoern Gulden to discuss a partnership aimed at advancing sports technology innovation, bolstering Tsinghua's athletic programs, and nurturing the next generation of talent.
According to Liu Bo, the university's director of Division of Sports Science and Physical Education, Tsinghua has maintained a strong commitment to athletics since its founding. Since the 1990s, the university has developed competitive teams in key sports, including shooting, athletics, and basketball, producing a number of Olympic athletes, among them champions, he said.
"Our recent innovations in sports education reflect our dedication to students' well-being and success," Liu noted. "We now require all students to learn swimming to graduate, and we have introduced specialized physical education classes for freshmen. Our focus extends to advancing research in sports science, further enhancing our programs."
