Chinese shares close higher on Thursday

Chinese shares surged on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 3.61 percent, closing at 3,000.95.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 4.44 percent, closing at 8,916.65.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, surged 4.42 percent to 1,714.14 points.
