Pork plays an indispensable role in many Chinese people's diet, and the country accounts for over half of the world's pig population.
The National Center of Big Data for Pigs in Chongqing's Rongchang district is the first and only national big data service platform for a single breed of livestock, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
The center aims to build a national public platform to serve the government's decision-making and promote the high quality development of the pig breeding industry, according to local authorities.
Rongchang, a border district in the west of Chongqing, is known as "China's animal husbandry science and technology city", and even has a breed of pig named after it — Rongchang pig, which has strong adaptability, good disease resistance and meat quality.
"We rely on three major platforms of the digital supervision, smart breeding management system and pig financial data analysis to effectively solve the problems in daily supervision, disease prevention and control, and financial loans in the pig breeding industry," said Qin Youping, director of the center.
He said, the center now can provide information service of pig breeding, meat trafficking and online real-time supervision of slaughtering to ensure the food safety.
In recent years, Rongchang has focused on promoting the implementation of digital agricultural science and technology. The center has set up 303 live pig data collection points across the country, trying to realize the digitalization of the whole industrial chain.
