SINGAPORE - Former Singaporean Transport Minister S. Iswaran was sentenced to 12 months in jail on Thursday, according to local media reports.

The sentencing came after Iswaran pleaded guilty on Sept. 24 to charges of obtaining valuable items as a public servant and obstructing the course of justice.

He was found obtaining gifts worth over 400,000 Singapore dollars (309,000 U.S. dollars).

Singapore's Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau investigated Iswaran last July and he resigned as the transport minister in January.
